PETALING JAYA, 7 June 2024 – GX Bank Berhad (GXBank) introduced Impian Gigih Biasiswa, a scholarship programme aimed at providing Malaysian students equitable access to tertiary education. The Biasiswa is part of GXBank’s Impian Gigih programme, demonstrating its continued commitment to drive financial inclusion and literacy, and encourage intergenerational social mobility, with education as key.
“A recent post-pandemic trend in Malaysia indicated that the number of students, especially from low-income households, forgoing higher education is on the rise. The situation is no doubt exacerbated by the prohibitively expensive costs to pursue a diploma or degree and also the general cost of living,” said Hildah Hamzah, Chief of Staff at GXBank.
Impian Gigih Biasiswa alleviates the financial worries of deserving students by providing them with financial assistance to cover tuition fees, living and accommodation costs, and other educational expenses. Successful applicants will also receive self-development opportunities - exposure to an overseas immersion programme, courses targeted at building resilience and future-ready skills, as well as an internship programme with GXBank.
Education: a catalyst for economic and social progress
The country’s plan on growing the talent pool, coupled with its dynamic infrastructure and progressive policies, feed into the bigger picture of driving structural transformation of the economy into a high-income nation. Hence, education not only plays a critical role in breaking the cycle of poverty but is also central to producing high-value talent - a vital cog in advancing Malaysia’s digital economy aspirations.
“We at GXBANK believe that education and the right opportunities can transform lives and inspire anyone to reach their full potential. Outstanding talents who demonstrate exceptional academic achievements, leadership potential, and a hunger to create positive impact amongst their community deserve a chance to further themselves. Their financial situation should not be a barrier to achieving their dreams. We are motivated and driven to nurture the nation’s best and brightest to lead the transformation of Malaysia’s digital banking landscape,”Hildah added.
